BRACKETS
Traditionally at EPCC, the higher seeded player/team gets to choose the board in head-to-head matches. Due to the scale of this year’s tournament, we are forgoing that tradition in the interest of time. This year, you will notice a board/table assignment in parentheses “()” for each match, located on both the bracket and your scoresheet.
The bracket phase of the tournament will take approximately 4 hours. In the interest of not forcing folks that were eliminated early stand around and be forced to watch for 3+ hours, we’ve made a portion of the tournament TRIPLE ELIMINATION!
Those teams that would have otherwise been eliminated after round 2 will be placed in the “E” BRACKET and play for 49th place.
Those teams that would have otherwise been eliminated after round 3 will be placed in the “D” BRACKET and play for 33rd place.
Those teams that would have otherwise been eliminated after round 4 will be placed in the “C” BRACKET and play for 25th place.
The losers of the tournament semi-finals will play for 3rd place. The winners of the consolation “B” BRACKET will be awarded 5th place. The losers of “B” BRACKET semi-finals (round 8) will play for 7th place while the four losers of the “B” BRACKET quarter-finals (round 7) will compete for 9th place.
Each match will have its own scoresheet. They are individualized by match numbers that correspond to your position in the bracket and will include your table assignment.
After your match’s conclusion, you will be directed to your next match/table by the numbers on the bottom of your scoresheet.
ALL matches in the “A” BRACKET are to 7 points with the exception of semi-finals (9 points).
ALL matches in the “B”, “C”, “D” & “E” BACKETS are to 5 points with the exception of the 3rd and 5th place matches (9 points).
